Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic who is also a public speaker. Feminist Frequency was founded by Sarkeesian. It hosts video clips featuring commentary and analysis of the depictions of women in the media and popular culture of today. Anita Sarkeesian has been a journalist, media critic and award-winning feminist for over 10 years. Feminist Frequency is a not-for profit educational site that explores the representation of women in pop stories of culture - was created and is directed by Sarkeesian. She's committed to removing stereotypes about women and how they appear in popular culture. Additionally she has a mission to increase awareness of online harassment directed towards women as well as those who are marginalized. Sarkeesian has a Master's degree in political and social thinking from York University. As a public speaker, she is well-known and has been a speaker at TEDxWomenXOXO and the United Nations Broadband Working Group. At a young age she was intrigued by the issue of gender identity and feminist thinking. When she was still in school, in 2009, she created her Feminist Frequency Website. Someone who hoped to launch a web-series that would examine the gender-based representation in video games was targeted in the internet campaign. But the harassment did not dissuade her. She was only able to strengthen her position as a feminist journalist. Numerous awards have been awarded to her for all the contributions that she contributed to. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic for many years and was the creator of Feminist Frequency. The educational non-profit explores the role of women within the popular culture stories.
