Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck; September 26 1926 - October 18 in 2000) was an American actress and singer her career spans more than 40 years. A torch singer noted for her gorgeous, sultry contralto voice, London recorded over thirty albums of jazz and pop standards between 1955 and 1969. Inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001, she recorded "Cry me a river" which she had included on her debut album. London was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for her role as Dixie McCall, a nurse on Emergency! London was born in Santa Rosa, California to vaudevillian parents. She began her acting career in Los Angeles as an actress. London's 35-year acting career began with film in 1944 and included roles as the female lead in a variety of westerns, co-starring with Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951) along with Robert Taylor and John Cassavetes in Saddle the Wind (1958) as well as together with Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) and together with Robert Mitchum in The Wonderful Country (1959). In the mid-1950s she signed a recording contract with Liberty Records, marking the beginning of her professional musical career. Her last studio album was released in the year 1969. She continued her success as the female star role of Dixie McCall on the television show Emergency! (1972-1979) during which she co-starred with husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb produced the show.
